The intent of this blog is to allow United States veterans and others to post information, comments, questions and links for other veterans that might not have been mentioned at their time of discharge.

Please post your information, comments, questions and links in any comment area. It will be included in an actual post for all to read as soon as possible. You may also send your information, comments, questions and links by email to: support@trutextads.com

Your information (not normally offered freely by any government agency) may make it easier for other veterans to traverse the actual procedures to more quickly access benefits and important information.

Always inquire with your veterans representative or the Veteran Administration for verification and clarification of any information.

Veterans Benefits - 002: Medical

I went to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas today. In case you do not know it, you can, if eligible, claim travel pay on the 1st floor down past Clinic 3.

If you do not know if you are eligible then ask at the travel pay window. Once you know that you are eligible for travel pay then you MUST CHECK OUT at your appointment desk prior to going to be paid at the travel pay window.

I did not find this out until almost three years after I began traveling to the VA Medical Center. Remember: ALWAYS ASK... BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY TELL YOU THE FACTS OTHERWISE!

For those sleeping on the streets I would like to tell you about a veteran I met while I was visiting the VA Medical Center emergency room.

I do not know his name; however, he came in complaining about chest pains. Naturally they did all the EKG and other tests.  While he was waiting for the results he explained to me that one way he knew how he could
get a stay overnight for observation and a a couple of meals was by coming in with chest pains. I personally do not condone this; however, I do not believe any U.S. Veteran should be disallowed a night and a meal as opposed to living on the streets.

May God bless you and all of yours, Don
